Deicorp greenlit for Marquet & Mary tower in Rhodes
Prominent developer Deicorp has secured planning approval for its first ever Rhodes apartment development.
They've been given the go ahead to developer Marquet & Mary, a 32-level mixed-use tower in the heart of Rhodes designed by Fender Katsilidis.
The design for the $435 million project, which was selected by an expert design jury last year, has been approved by the Sydney Eastern City Planning Panel.
Above a four-level podium, that will home retail and commercial spaces, a community rooftop terrace and garden, and a residential courtyard, will be 214 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, a community rooftop terrace and garden,
Deicorp’s Chairman, Fouad Deiri OAM, said the Golden Four Drive will bring much-needed new homes to the heart of Rhodes.
“Designed by one of Australia’s leading design practices, FK, Marquet & Mary delivers on Deicorp’s business values of strong design and high-quality amenities,” Deiri said.
FK Partner Craig Baudin said Canada Bay City Council's swift approval of the development application underscores the recognition that this project goes beyond simply providing much-needed housing.
"It also completes a crucial missing piece in the precinct - the revitalisation of an underutilised low-rise lot," Baudin said.
"With this momentum, the DA approval paves the way for delivering a transformative project for Rhodes."
Positioned strategically at the corner of Marquet and Mary streets, the Rhodes peninsula is home to an established precinct of shopping, dining, leisure and transport - including the nearby Rhodes train station.
Recognised by an independent judging panel when awarding FK the project following a design excellence competition in 2023, FK’s design was praised for the provision of a public plaza at the southern entrance and the fine-grain design of the ground plane.
The mixed-use precinct will create new laneways and foster greater connectivity throughout central Rhodes. A new public landscaped laneway, enlivened by active retail uses on the ground level, aims to connect the development to its surroundings.
