For the last 13 years, forward-thinking Melbourne property developer Milieu has concentrated its efforts predominantly in Melbourne's cooler northern suburbs. Think Brunswick East and Collingwood.

They've built up an unrivalled brand since 2010, and are well known across the Melbourne off the plan apartment market for creating designed-focused projects which go well past the ordinary.

Their latest project, adaptive reuse, is being delivered in partnership with Penfold and MaxCap and represents the first chance for those living in Melbourne's inner south east to call a Milieu apartment home. They've chosen an island site in leafy Malvern for the boutique 21-apartment project, quietly set on Plant Street and just a stones throw to the convenience of Malvern and Glenferrie roads.

To mark the move into a different market, Milieu have collaborated with some of the best in their respective fields to bring the project to life. Local architecture studio RITZ&GHOUGASSIAN champion the architecture of the striking building, exercising balance and restraint with its solid, textural forms.

The building uses features a textured hand finished concrete façade contrasted with smooth slab edges which are designed to play with light and shadows, creating a sense of depth and uniqueness. Horizontal planes at various heights punctuate the façade, allowing for generous views of the surrounding gardens and neighbourhoods.

Interior designer Georgina Jeffries, well known for creating spaces in some of Melbourne's finest homes, is well appointed to craft the interiors. Jeffries has chosen a refined but relaxed material palette of honey timber joinery, brown ash brick, terrazzo and natural stone. The apartments feature custom lighting by Volker Haug Studio which adds a touch of artistry to the interiors, reflecting the studio's commitment to local craftsmanship and comfort.

Weaving it all together is landscape architect Acre, whose brief was to soften, as well as a complement, the architecture and interiors. Each of the key design decisions were focused around how to maximise nature and bring the outdoors in, with a textural, layered and seasonal approach affording every resident a connection to the landscape.

Milieu has already commenced demolition on the near 1,000 sqm site and are set to announce a builder in the coming weeks. Plant Street by Milieu is forecast to be complete in mid-2025.

Jellis Craig Projects Director Stephen Bowtell, who is marketing Plant Street, says they've already seen strong interest and sales in the project.

"Milieu have built incredible brand recognition over the last decade, consistently delivering some of the best projects in Australia" Bowtell says.

"Their track record is unparalleled for this kind of product in Melbourne. "

Bowtell is expecting a lot of local interest from the surrounding suburbs and across Melbourne. Particularly buyers who are looking to move into Milieu’s first development in the Eastern Suburbs.

Plant Steret by Milieu will be the developers 23rd project in Melbourne.
