Victorian Planning Minister approves Golden Age townhouse development in Brighton
The former Xavier junior school in Brighton is set to become a new housing development, after Sonya Kilkenny MP, Victorian Planning Minister, officially approved the new project by Golden Age Group that was rejected by Bayside Council earlier this year.
The 47 South Road development involves the subdivision of 3.3-hectares at 47 South Road into 14 individual lots, as well as the creation of one super lot. There will be 84 new homes developed across the site.
Damien Hehir, Golden Age Group Development Director, said the development represents a pivotal step forward in providing much-needed housing in Brighton.
"The project will not only enhance the local environment but also contribute to the region’s economic growth and community development.," Hehier said.
Comments from the Advisory Committee Report noted the site "will be sensitively developed and provide an injection of housing into an area that would benefit from opportunities for existing and new residents to potentially downsize”.
The approved plans now include an amendment that provides a new pedestrian path and landscaping to the Hartley Street amenity, responding to the requests from local residents.
"Our vision for 47 South Road is to create a thriving residential community that aligns with the values and needs of Victorians and the local Brighton community," Hehir added.
"We look forward to collaborating with local stakeholders to enhance the neighbourhood and provide outstanding living spaces for future residents.”
Construction is set to commence following final planning and regulatory approvals, with additional details on timelines and development phases to be announced in the coming months.
