Asking rents in decline: CoreLogic

Rents in the capital cities continue to decline with asking rents down by 0.5% over the past 12 months, according to CoreLogic's latest report.

The combined capital house asking rent deteriorated by 0.8% year on year to August 2016, while asking unit rents rose slightly by 0.7% year on year.

Hobart was the standout performer across the last the last 12 months, asking rents for houses rising by 6.0% and units 14.3%. 

The gains in the country's most southerly capital was offset by the falls in the most northerly. 

Darwin has seen the most significant change with annual house rents down by 10.8% while units are down by 27.9%.
